Shortcuts and bookmarks
Keep the sites you use most under the search box, one click away, and browse your bookmarks without digging through folders.
Shortcuts
The row of icons under the search box shows your shortcuts. When you hover over them, they magnify like the macOS Dock.
Add a shortcut
- Click "+" at the end of your shortcuts.
- Enter a name and URL. Browser pages such as
chrome://inspect/#devicesare also supported. - Choose an icon: a built-in icon, an online icon, or your own image (a square image of at least 128×128 px works best).
- Click Save.
Organize shortcuts
- Right-click a shortcut to edit or remove it. If you remove one by mistake, use the shortcut shown in the notice to undo.
- Drag shortcuts to reorder them. Drag one onto your bookmarks to turn it into a bookmark.
- To change how many shortcuts appear per row, icon size, spacing, Dock magnification or the "+" button, go to Appearance → New Tab in Lumno's settings.
- If you don't need shortcuts, turn off Shortcuts in the same place to remove the row of icons under the search box.
Shortcut folders
When your shortcuts pile up, stack them into folders, like apps on a phone's home screen. Drag one shortcut onto the middle of another, wait for "Release to create a folder in the bookmarks bar", then let go. Dropping it on either side of an icon just reorders.
- The new folder is saved at the end of your browser's bookmarks bar and takes the place of the shortcut you dropped onto. Press ⌘CtrlZ to undo.
- Drag a shortcut onto a folder to put it inside. You can also drag a folder from the bookmarks area into your shortcuts.
- Click a folder to show its sites, and click it again to close it.
- Right-click a site in a folder and choose Edit to give it an icon, just like a shortcut. The icon is saved on this device only.
- Right-click a folder to open all of its pages in a new tab group, rename it, change its color, or remove it from your shortcuts. The folder stays in your bookmarks bar.
Bookmarks
The bookmarks area shows the contents of your browser's bookmarks bar. When you hover over a folder, its card shows the icons of a few sites inside it.
- Right-click a folder to change its color. The folder also uses that color in menus.
- Right-click a folder and choose "Open in new tab group" to open all of its pages at once, grouped together.
- Click the bookmark icon to open the browser's bookmark manager.
- Shortcuts and bookmarks open in the current tab by default. To open them in a new tab instead, turn each one on under General → New Tab Settings → Open in a new tab in Lumno's settings. Holding ⌘Ctrl while you click, or middle-clicking, always opens in the background.
Bookmark layouts
Click "···" at the top right of the bookmarks area to switch between three layouts.
Multi-layer folder view
The default layout. Folders and bookmarks appear as cards. Click a folder to open it in place; the heading shows where you are, such as "Bookmarks / Reference". Click "Bookmarks" to go back up a level.
Multi-level list view
The cards stay where they are. Click a folder to open it as a menu; subfolders open to the right as you go. You can browse deeply nested folders without leaving the page you're on.
Top bookmarks bar
Bookmarks appear in a row along the top of the page, like the browser's own bookmarks bar. Folders in the bar open as menus too.
With the top bookmarks bar, click "···" at the right end of the bar to choose its background: Adaptive mist, Clear glass, Transparent or Custom color.
Rows and hiding bookmarks
To choose how many rows of bookmarks appear and how many fit in each row, go to Appearance → New Tab in Lumno's settings.
- Bookmark rows: choose from 0 to 8 rows. The default is 2. When your bookmarks don't all fit, use the arrows at the top right of the bookmarks area to page through them.
- Hide bookmarks: drag Bookmark rows to 0. The new tab no longer shows your bookmarks, and the top bookmarks bar is hidden too. Your browser's bookmarks aren't affected, and you can bring them back at any time.
- Bookmarks per row: choose from 4 to 8. The default is 6. This is the most that appear when the window is wide enough; narrower windows show fewer.
- Show Icons Inside Bookmark Folders: turn this off to stop showing site icons when you hover over a folder.
The site cards at the bottom of the new tab are set here too. See
Frequent sites and progress cards.
