Lumno

Link preview

Shift-click a link and Lumno opens it in a small window over the page you're on. The page behind it shrinks back and blurs. When you're done, close the window to pick up where you left off, or move the link to a new tab to keep reading.

Preview a link

  1. On a web page, hold ⇧Shift and click a link.
  2. The link opens in a small window. Links you click inside the window open there too.
  3. When you're done, press Esc or click anywhere outside the window to close it.
Preview a link in a small window

If you hold ⇧Shift and rest the pointer on a link, Lumno starts loading the page early, so it appears sooner when you click.

Besides ordinary links, you can also preview:

  • Text that shows a web address and opens that address when you click it.
  • Posts on X (Twitter): hold ⇧Shift and click a post to preview it.

Buttons in the window

From top to bottom, the buttons to the right of the window are:

  • Close: Closes the window and returns you to the page.
  • Open in new tab: Moves the page in the window to a new tab and closes the window.
  • Copy link: Copies the address of the page shown in the window. If you followed other links in the window, it copies the page you're looking at now.
  • Reload: Reloads the page in the window.
  • Back: Appears after you follow a link in the window, and returns to the previous page.

While the window is open, the page behind it doesn't scroll. When you close the window, the page is right where you left it.

Pages that can't be previewed

A few sites don't allow themselves to be shown inside other pages, and sometimes a page fails to load. In that case the window says "This page can’t be shown in a preview". Click "Open in new tab" to view it as usual.

In these cases no preview opens, and the browser handles the Shift-click as it normally would, usually by opening the link in a new window:

  • Links on browser settings pages, extension stores and other restricted pages, where Lumno can't run.
  • Links that download a file, email links, and links that jump to another part of the same page.

Turn it on or off

Link preview is on by default. If you'd rather Shift-click open links in a new window as before, turn off "Link preview" under "Features" in Lumno's settings.
